An estimate to help you plan. Your local Jamaat’s finance secretary confirms the exact amounts, the income to include and any approved reductions. Nothing you enter is sent or saved.
How the calculator works
Enter your income after tax for a month or a year, choose Chanda Aam or Wasiyyat, and the calculator shows the obligatory chanda per month and per year. You can add your voluntary pledges for Tahrik-e-Jadid, Waqf-e-Jadid and your auxiliary organisation to see one total.
Rates used
- Chanda Aam: 1/16 (6.25%) of income from all sources, after taxes and compulsory insurance. In special circumstances a lower rate can be approved; ask your local finance secretary.
- Chanda Wasiyyat (Hissa Amad): Musis pay the rate they promised in their Wasiyyat, between 1/10 and 1/3 of their income. Income from property is paid at the Chanda Aam rate of 1/16. A Musi pays Wasiyyat instead of Chanda Aam, not in addition to it. The bequest of 1/10 to 1/3 of property at death (Hissa Jaidad) is separate and is not calculated here.
- Chanda Jalsa Salana: 1/120 of annual income – the same as one tenth of one month’s income.
- Tahrik-e-Jadid and Waqf-e-Jadid: voluntary schemes. Each member decides the amount of their own promise, so the calculator only adds what you enter.
- Auxiliary chanda (Ansarullah, Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, Lajna Ima’illah and others) is set nationally and differs from country to country, so enter the amount your Majlis has given you.
Example
With an income after tax of 3,000 a month (36,000 a year): Chanda Aam is 3,000 ÷ 16 = 187.50 a month (2,250 a year), and Jalsa Salana is 36,000 ÷ 120 = 300 a year (25 a month). A Musi at 1/10 would instead pay 300 a month in Chanda Wasiyyat.
Good to know
- Financial years differ: the main Jamaat year usually runs from 1 July to 30 June, Tahrik-e-Jadid from 1 November to 31 October and Waqf-e-Jadid from 1 January to 31 December. Check the dates used in your country.
- If your income changes during the year, recalculate so your promise stays up to date.
- Students and members without income should ask their local Jamaat about the guidance that applies to them.
