What is EXIF data?
Phones and cameras save hidden details inside every photo: the camera model, the date and time, the exposure settings and often the exact GPS location where the photo was taken. This is called EXIF metadata.
Why remove it before sharing?
- Privacy: a photo taken at home can reveal your address to anyone who downloads the original file.
- Selling online: marketplace photos can show where you live or work.
- Smaller files: metadata and embedded thumbnails can add tens of kilobytes.

Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The file is read and cleaned in your browser and never leaves your device.
Does removing metadata reduce quality?
For normal JPG photos, no: the metadata blocks are cut out and the image data is copied unchanged. Rotated photos and other formats are redrawn at 95% quality so they stay the right way up.
Do WhatsApp and Instagram remove EXIF?
Most social apps strip location data when they compress your photo, but files sent by email, cloud links or as WhatsApp "documents" usually keep it.
