How to convert a PDF to PNG or JPG

  1. Choose or drop your PDF.
  2. Pick the format and resolution. Leave the page box empty to convert every page, or type pages such as 1-3, 6.
  3. Click Convert. Each page appears as an image; download them one by one, or all at once as a ZIP file.

PNG or JPG?

  • PNG is lossless: text, lines and diagrams stay perfectly sharp. Best for documents, charts and slides.
  • JPG gives much smaller files and is best for pages that are mostly photos. Use 85–95% quality; below about 75% text can look blurry. JPG has no transparency, so pages get a white background.

Which resolution?

PDF pages are measured in points (72 per inch). At 72 DPI an A4 page becomes 595 × 842 pixels, at 150 DPI about 1240 × 1754 pixels, and at 300 DPI about 2480 × 3508 pixels. Use 150 DPI for websites, email and presentations, and 300 DPI if you need to print the image or zoom in on small text. Doubling the DPI makes the file about four times larger. Very large pages are reduced automatically so your browser does not run out of memory.

Privacy and limits

Pages are drawn in your browser with Mozilla’s PDF.js, the same engine Firefox uses to show PDFs. Your file is not uploaded. Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first with the PDF Unlocker. A few PDFs that use rare fonts may look slightly different from Adobe Acrobat.
