How to Calculate the Value of an Online Business
Whether you run a SaaS product, a thriving e-commerce store, or a high-traffic content blog, understanding your business’s market value is critical for potential acquisitions. Unlike physical real estate, digital businesses are almost exclusively valued using a multiple of their Seller’s Discretionary Earnings (SDE) or Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA).
Standard Valuation Multiples in 2026
The multiplier applied to your monthly or annual profit depends entirely on your business model, customer retention rate, and age. Our calculator applies the most up-to-date industry standards:
- Content Sites & Blogs: Usually evaluated on a monthly multiple ranging from 30x to 45x of net profit. Sites with diverse, organic Google traffic and long track records command the highest multiples.
- SaaS (Software as a Service): Highly prized due to recurring revenue. SaaS businesses often sell for 4x to 8x of their Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR), or up to 10x their Annual Profit.
- E-commerce & Dropshipping: Generally valued lower due to inventory risks, ad spend volatility, and platform dependencies. Typical multiples are 2.5x to 4x Annual Profit.
Factors That Increase Your Valuation
To maximize your exit price, focus on building transferable assets. A business completely reliant on the founder’s personal brand is incredibly difficult to sell. Buyers look for Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), an aged domain (3+ years), multiple streams of traffic (SEO, email lists, direct), and a diversified revenue model that isn’t reliant on a single affiliate program or ad network.
