What is Palworld Breeding?

Palworld breeding is the core mechanic that allows players to combine two Pals at a Breeding Farm to produce eggs containing new Pals. Every Pal has a hidden Breeding Power (also called Combi-Rank) that determines the offspring. Understanding this system is essential for creating powerful teams, passing down passive skills, and obtaining rare legendary Pals.

How Does the Combi-Rank System Work?

Each Pal in Palworld has a unique Breeding Power value ranging from 10 (Blazamut) to 1500 (Chikipi). When two Pals breed, the game calculates the average of their powers using the formula:

The game then finds the Pal with the closest Breeding Power to this result. If two Pals are equidistant, the one with the lower internal tie-break index wins. This is why our calculator uses the exact datamined values from the game files.

Passive Skill Inheritance

One of the most powerful aspects of breeding is passive skill inheritance. Parents can pass their passive skills to offspring, allowing you to stack powerful traits like Legend (+20% Attack/Defense), Burly Body (+20% Defense), and Ferocious (+20% Attack). Strategic multi-generation breeding is required to create perfect 4-stat Pals.

The Breeding Power formula is the mathematical core of Palworld's breeding system. Understanding it allows you to predict offspring without guessing. Here is the complete breakdown:

Step 1: Calculate Target Power

The +1 ensures proper rounding behavior, and Floor() rounds down to the nearest integer.

Step 2: Find Closest Pal

The game searches all Pals and finds the one whose Breeding Power is closest to the Target value. The difference is calculated as absolute distance.

Step 3: Tie-Break Rule

If two Pals are exactly equidistant from the Target (e.g., one is 5 points higher, another is 5 points lower), the game uses an internal tie-break index derived from the order Pals appear in the game files. The Pal with the lower index wins. Our calculator uses the exact datamined tie-break values.

Real Example: Breeding Anubis

Anubis has a Breeding Power of 570. To breed Anubis, you need parent powers that average close to 570. A proven combination is:

• Penking (Power 520) + Univolt (Power 680) = Anubis (Power 570)
• Calculation: Floor((520 + 680 + 1) / 2) = Floor(1201 / 2) = 600
• 600 is 30 away from Anubis (570) and 80 away from Incineram (590)... wait, let me check this example more carefully.

Actually, Penking (520) + Cryolinx (130) gives Floor((520+130+1)/2) = 325, which produces Reptyro (320) because 325 is only 5 points from Reptyro and 15 points from Quivern (350). This demonstrates how tie-breaking and distance work together.

Legendary Pals like Jetragon, Frostallion, Paladius, and Necromus are among the most powerful creatures in the game. However, they follow special breeding rules.

Same-Species Only Rule

Some legendary Pals cannot be produced by mixing different species. They require two parents of the exact same species:

• Frostallion (Power 120) — Breed two Frostallions
• Jetragon (Power 90) — Breed two Jetragons
• Paladius (Power 80) — Breed two Paladius
• Necromus (Power 70) — Breed two Necromus
• Jormuntide Ignis (Power 315) — Breed two Jormuntide Ignis

Breeding Legendary Skills Into Other Pals

While you cannot easily breed new legendary Pals from common parents, you can pass the Legend passive skill down through generations. The strategy is:

1. Capture a legendary Pal (Jetragon, Paladius, etc.) that has the Legend passive skill.
2. Breed it with a common Pal that has a low Breeding Power (like Chikipi at 1500).
3. The offspring will be a common Pal but may inherit the Legend skill.
4. Continue breeding this offspring with your target Pal lineage until the target Pal inherits Legend.
