How Do YouTubers Actually Make Money?
Ever wondered how much your favorite creators make per video? Or perhaps you are starting your own channel and want to forecast your potential earnings. Our YouTube Revenue Calculator helps you estimate your daily, monthly, and yearly income based on your daily video views and estimated CPM.
Understanding CPM vs. RPM
To accurately calculate YouTube earnings, you must understand the difference between CPM and RPM, two critical metrics in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP):
- CPM (Cost Per Mille): This is the amount advertisers pay YouTube for every 1,000 ad impressions on your video. It represents advertiser spending, not creator earnings.
- RPM (Revenue Per Mille): This is the actual amount you take home per 1,000 video views after YouTube takes its 45% cut. RPM is always lower than CPM because it accounts for YouTube’s revenue share and monetized vs. non-monetized views.
Factors That Affect Your YouTube Earnings
Your YouTube income is highly variable. A tech channel with 100,000 views might make $1,500, while a gaming channel with the same views might only make $300. Why? Because of the audience and niche.
Finance, business, software, and real estate are known as “High CPM” niches because advertisers in those spaces sell expensive products and are willing to pay top dollar for ads. Conversely, prank videos, gaming, and general vlogs typically have much lower CPMs. Furthermore, viewers from Tier 1 countries (like the US, UK, Canada, and Australia) generate significantly higher ad revenue than viewers from developing nations.
